A 60-year old man allegedly strangled his married daughter to death at Saholi village of Jodhan in Ludhiana. The woman, identified as Harpreet Kaur (32) was married. She was allegedly having an extra-marital affair because of which her husband refused to accept her. Her father Pal Singh (60) allegedly strangled her to death after she was turned out of her husband’s home in village Bassian and returned to her parents’ home in Saholi. The father strangled her using shoe laces.

The police said that the woman and the man with whom she was having an affair allegedly eloped to village Heeran. The woman’s in-laws informed about the incident to her father who reached Heeran and brought the woman back to her in-laws village. However, the in-laws and the husband refused to accept her in front of the panchayat and she came back to her maternal home.

On the intervening night of Friday and Saturday, the father allegedly strangled her to death. As per the victim’s mother, she tried to intervene, but Pal Singh was furious and did not listen to her pleas. The police have recovered a pair of shoe laces using which Pal Singh allegedly strangled his daughter to death.

Ludhiana rural SSP Opinderjit Singh Ghuman said an FIR was registered against the father under Section 302 (murder) of IPC at Jodhan police station and he had been arrested.
