“For any nation, any race or any society to succeed, pride is paramount and sports for that reason contribute a huge amount of pride. Thus, we have to look at sports in India with an all new reason altogether,” said Pullela Gopichand, Chief National Coach for the Indian Badminton team and former Indian badminton player, who was speaking at the Switch Global Expo during the innovation lecture series in Vadodara Sunday.
Gujarat minister of sports, Rajendra Trivedi, was also present at the event. Gopichand said, “It is important to produce champions, but more important is to produce a champion mindset. It is important to win a gold medal, but it is more important to develop the gold medal mindset. It’s time to shift the whole course of sports. Sports is much more important for us than the medals we produce.”
Stressing on the importance of physical literacy in India, “We’ve grown numerically, but we have stopped growing physically,” he said.
