A three-tier security would be provided at the counting centre in Puducherry, for the November 19 assembly by-election from Nellithope segment, in which Chief Minister V Narayanasamy will be contesting, a top election official said on Friday. District Election Officer Satyendra Singh Durswat stated this after inspecting the Bharathidasan Government College for Women, the counting centre, along with officials of various departments.

The counting of votes would take place on November 22, he told reporters. The by-poll in Nellithope has become necessary following the resignation of Congress MLA A John Kumar to facilitate Narayanasamy, a non-member of the assembly to contest the poll to become an elected member.

For all practical purposes the constituency will witness a straight fight between ruling Congress and AIADMK. AIADMK has fielded former party MLA from the same constituency, Om Sakthi Segar.

Segar had held Nellithope seat twice consecutively in the polls held in 2006 and 2011.
