Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar Monday said that while previous governments did nothing to implement the One Rank One Pension (OROP) scheme, the NDA government had fulfilled its assurance and 20.69 lakh veterans were already benefitting from it.
“OROP is an issue of 43 years. No one (previous governments) did anything. This government fulfilled it. We have disbursed more than Rs 5,500 crore. The annual cost of OROP is about Rs 7,500 crore. We are giving arrears as well as current payments,” Parrikar said at the inauguration of a parking space here.
He said that he would take part in the the BJP’s campaign for the 2017 Goa election. “Being a Goan, I have to be there during the BJP’s election campaign. Is there a question mark on that? I understand that some people do not want me to come because they feel their chances will be diminished,” he said.
