Salary of President and Vice-President may go up to three times as the Union Home Ministry has prepared a proposal for raising the emoluments of the country’s two top functionaries. The move comes following the implementation of the 7th Pay Commission’s recommendations which has created an anomalous situation in which the salary of the President is Rs 1 lakh less than that of the country’s top-most bureaucrat, the Cabinet secretary.

The proposal is expected to be placed before the Union Cabinet for its approval soon, official sources said. At present, the President gets Rs 1.50 lakh per month, the Vice-President Rs 1.25 lakh and Governor of a state Rs 1.10 lakh. As per the proposal the President’s salary may go up to Rs 5 lakh and Vice-President’s up to Rs 3.5 lakh, sources said.

After the implementation of the 7th Pay Commission’s awards, the Cabinet Secretary, who is the top-most bureaucrat in the country, gets Rs 2.5 lakh per month and a Secretary in the Union government draws Rs 2.25 lakh per month. After the Cabinet gives its nod, Bills to this effect will be tabled in Parliament, possibly in the coming Winter session, for passage.

Salaries of the President, Vice-President and Governors were last hiked in 2008 when Parliament had approved a three-fold increase. Till 2008, the President’s salary was Rs 50,000, the Vice-President’s Rs 40,000 and a Governor’s Rs 36,000. In addition, proposals are also expected to be moved for raising the pensions of former Presidents, spouses of deceased Presidents, former Vice-Presidents, spouses of deceased Vice-President and former Governors.

Does the Cabinet Secretary enjoy the same perks as the President? What are the perks of the President and Vice President and what is the value of such perks? I do not grudge a ry hike but let us not compare saying that his total emoluments(including perks) are much lower than the Cabinet Secretary. The President deserves all respect as the Head of the State.

These are the Top Position of the Country so Government and MHA can have and decide; lt;br/gt;What is more important is whether the 7th Pay Omission should really be taken ahead when the country is not doing well and its Economy is really struggling and several other issues lined up. In our Corporate Houses many time it happened when there was no hike given saying the Company in not doing up to the mark in last two years.

no objection to raising the ry of president of India! top civil servants, army officers and CEOs of PSUs are pegged to be less than that of president. it makes the civil servants look smaller in compared to the CEOs of private corporations. who besides ry get a lot of other privileges like bonus, allotment of shares etc. Se. Cabiner minster of Singapore told that if u pay peanuts as ry, un get monkeys to do the job. suppose we pay a million rupees as monthly ry to say 1000 top civil servants, army officers, CEOs, it will cost an additional 750 crores per year only. it will make the departments, PSUs perform better. , the expenditure may pay back the as better efficiency, objective, expenses in a month or two.. private corporations owners/CEOs do not mind paying their officers top ry. and expect them to perform! but our politicians who get elected on caste loyalty and become misters, do not have any higher level objectives. yatha rajah, thatha prajah and top civil servants too! look what is going on in UP now!

These consutional functionaries spend their ry on what? Everything for them is free. What they are getting is more than enough.
