Three persons were arrested Sunday in connection with the murder of VHP leader Pravin Togadia’s cousin and two others in the city, police said.
Police said they were still looking for four persons in connection with the triple-murder and suspected real estate dispute for the murder. The incident took place Saturday night.
The deceased have been identified as 40-year-old Bharat Togadia (brother of Congress councillor Pappan Togadia and cousin of Pravin Togadia), Bakul Hirani (45), and Mahesh Radadiya (35), son of a former Congress councillor. The condition of one Ashok Patel (32) is stated to be critical.
The four people were attacked allegedly by six youths with sharp weapons at Hirani’s office on Ashwani Kumar Road in Varachha area of the city Saturday night.

The matter took a political turn with RJD president Lalu Prasad questioning the law and order situation in Gujarat. “What kind of governance (raaj) is here?” Lalu tweeted against the backdrop of the “jungle raaj” barb hurled by BJP at the JD(U)-RJD coalition government in Bihar over the recent killings in that state. Gujarat state unit Congress president Bharatsinh Solanki also tweeted, “Where is the law and order in Gujarat?”

“We have arrested three youths and are questioning them. We came to know that Hirani had some land dispute at his native place in Bagasara village in Amreli district,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police Jagdish Patel.
The arrested persons were identified as Mehul Bharwad, Lalu Bharwad, and Imran Shaikh.
Surat Police Commissioner Ashish Bhatia said the attackers were demanding Rs 50 lakh, following a land deal.
