Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah on Friday said the policies of the country should not be determined by assembly elections in one state or the other. “There are elections everyday in this country. If we run the country only with an eye on assembly elections, it will not work,” Abdullah told reporters here after chairing a meeting of opposition parties in Kashmir on the situation in the Valley.

The National Conference president said there was a need to have sound polices for the future of the nation.

“We have to have sound policies for the future of the nation, not temporary solutions because we have elections here or we have elections there,” he said.

On the recent RSS rallies held in the state, Abdullah said all opposition parties were opposed to incidents and events that can divide the people of the state.

“None of us are in favour of such things which will divide the people of the state. India is not just one community, it is all communities irrespective of the colour, creed or where they live.
