The Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation (MDWS) along with the active support of Urban Development Ministry is organising a one-day conference INDOSAN (India Sanitaion), to review the implementation of the Swach Bharat Mission nationally.

The conference is scheduled on September 30, and will be inaugurated by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, according to a letter send to the states by the MDWS.

“INDOSAN is envisaged as an annual national event to bring together all stakeholders working in sanitation-government, NGOs, academicians, researchers, partner agencies and corporates on one platform for shared vision,” it added.

The letter also says there will be deliberations on a roadmap highlighting actions, interventions and milestones towards achieving the national goals of elimination of open defecation and initiation of solid & liquid waste management activities in every town of the country by 2019.

The SBM was officially launched on October 2, 2014 by Modi himslef. It aims universal sanitation and open defecation eradication by 2019, on the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.

It is coordinated by the Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation (MDWS) with two Sub-Missions, the Swachh Bharat Mission (Gramin) and the Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban).

Modi had also nominated 27 prominent personalities from various walks of life for promoting his pet programme. The list includes Amitabh Bachchan, Ramdev and Sachin Tendulkar among others
