In remarks seen as a snub to BJP Rajya Sabha member Subramanian Swamy for his attacks on RBI Governor Raghuram Rajan and senior officials of the Finance Ministry, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, without naming Swamy, has said “such things are inappropriate… the nation won’t benefit from such publicity stunts… anyone who believes he is bigger than the system is wrong”.

In an interview to Times Now aired on Monday, Modi said: “Raghuram Rajan’s patriotism is no less than any of ours… Those who speak such language are doing great injustice to him… I appreciate the work he has done. And my good wishes will always be with him”.

To a query on “hot heads who make extreme comments”, the Prime Minister said the media should ignore such people: “Don’t make them heroes, they will stop.”

Swamy’s attacks on Rajan, Chief Economic Advisor Arvind Subramanian and Economic Affairs Secretary Shaktikanta Das have also seen him targeting Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley who disapproved of the attacks and backed the officials.
