Amidst a flurry of reactions from various parties on the demonetisation issue, Prime Minister Narendra Modi called the demonetisation move a “crusade” against black money and urged all parties at the all party meeting on Tuesday to show support for the demonetisation policy in national interest. The meeting, held ahead of the Winter Session, was chaired by PM Modi. “We have launched a crusade against corruption, black money and fake currency, which is also behind cross-border terrorism. All parties should come together on this issue of national interest,” he said.

The Prime Minister also initiated the idea of having both Lok Sabha elections and Rajya Sabha elections together and said a discussion on this should be held in the Winter Session.

“A crucial problem is how to make political funding transparent. How to implement state funding of elections. Let all political parties debate it and come to a conclusion. Let’s remove the question mark which exists against those in public life. Polls happen separately. Let there be one election, simultaneous elections,” he said.

The government also made it clear that it is ready for discussion on all issues regarding the country with PM Modi hoping for a fruitful session as he recalled the passage of the GST Bill in the last session with the cooperation of all parties.

Opposition to the demonetisation move has come from all parties, with many calling it a ‘draconian’ step. Long lines have ensued outside banks and ATMs with people waiting to get there money exchanged or deposited.

Sensing that difficulty in exchanging and withdrawing cash could turn into public anger against the Central government, the BJP on Monday asked its leaders across the country to extend assistance to the people and stepped up the offensive against the Opposition for criticising the move to ban currency notes of higher denomination.

The BJP parliamentary party executive committee meeting, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Monday discussed the arrangements to ease the implementation of the decision. However, PM Modi has stated that there will be no rollback on the decision.

Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad alleged the decision to invalidate Rs 1000/500 currency notes was leaked in advance to some people, including BJP leaders, and called it probably the “biggest scam”. He, however, added that his party is not for its rollback.

Dear Modiji,lt;br/gt;lt;br/gt;Since you are sure to have lot of money to the exchequer why don't you reduce the petrol and oil prices by 5 rupees which can make some percentage of people to accept the demonetisation well. People should start seeing inflation reduce simultaneously.

Modi should put an Emergency. Ask military to control the opposition and also to implement the demonetization.

Bhakts always believe that whatever government will do is for the 'Nation'. If that argument fails, they will invoke the 'soldier'. Because 'Ram', 'Ram Mandir' and 'Go Mata' are all old outdated cards. Soldier and Nation are the last cards. How long this will go on?

I support Demonetisation and am convinced a small portion of black money will get destro during this exercise. But when Mr. Modi says the planning started ten months before, it is difficult to believe how the mismatch of Rs.2000 and ATMs took place. No trials conducted, no notes were printed in time. Also, govt. was very slow in printing Rs.500 notes. Govt. also failed to stock more Rs.100 notes and Rs.50 notes to fill the suddenly created vacuum of 85% of total currency notes in circulation. Govt. also failed to foresee the long queues in front of Banks and Post Offices. Just for exchanging notes, Govt. could have made arrangements elsewhere. Burdening the banks for the mere exchanging of notes was a very wrong thing. Finally, in villages were farmers have cultivated rice for you and me to eat, it is harvest time. The farmers are struggling to conduct the business as usual. In cities, people think farmers are a lazy lot. They have no muster to sign in the morning. They can work at any time and take rest as and when they wish. The truth is different. Certain jobs the farmers have to do precisely on certain times, within certain days. The crop and the market will not wait for them till they get enough currency notes in their hands. How detached are the ruling people from our general public is displa in details by the Demonetization Scheme of the government. It is not only the queue. It is also the time wasted. It is also the work days lost. It is about daily wages lost. Forcing a VIPs mother on the queue will not reduce the losses of common man. This government has shown the guts to undertake a major attack on black money and counterfeit notes. No other government done such a thing in the past. I expect the prices of consumable items to fall to some extent till the government feeds currency notes equivalent to the amount of notes withdrawn.
