PM Modi likely to inaugurate SAUNI project on August 30

It will be Modi’s second visit to Gujarat this month — the first being on Monday to pay homage to Pramukh Swami, the spiritual head of the Swaminarayan sect who passed away on Saturday.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to be in be Gujarat on August 30 to launch the SAUNI (Saurashtra Narmada Avataran Irrigation) Yojana providing Narmada water to parched areas of Saurashtra.

Chief Minister Vijay Rupani, in a statement on Thursday, said Modi as chief minister of Gujarat had launched the project to link 10 reservoirs, including three major dams of Aji-2, Und and Machchu-2, to the Narmada river.

The Rs 12,000-crore project is expected to replenish 15 dams and provide drinking water to 5,000 villages and irrigation for several lakh hectares in Jamnagar, Rajkot, Morbi and adjoining districts.
