Punjab Congress chief spokesperson Sunil Kumar Jakhar Tuesday criticised ruling SAD-BJP alliance and Prime Minister Narendra Modi for not announcing any financial package for state and industry.

“He did not announce anything for the state and now he should also consider turning the Rs 472 crore, demanded by the state government for the SC/ST post-matric scholarships, as a soft loan along with Rs 31,000 crore being restructured to “cover up” the food grain scam,” he said.

Jhakar requested the PM to provide a soft loan of Rs 31, 472 crore as it would help in the education of the SC students. If not, he said, the aided colleges are contemplating to stage a protest. “The PM should know that if he has inaugurated a SC/ST hub, he should allow the students of these categories to study as well,” Jakhar said.

The Congress spokesperson went on to add that the Centre had released an amount of Rs 376.87 crore as actual grant towards the SC/ST scholarship for the FY 2014-15.

Though the state government had given a Utilisation Certificate it also demanded Rs 245 crore as pending amount. Jakhar alleged this pending amount was actually the grant released by the Centre in previous years but was diverted to the state government for sangat darshans.
