Punjab Director General of Police Suresh Arora Tuesday rejected reports that the state police did not take immediate action on the inputs provided by the abducted Gurdaspur SP Salwinder Singh about the terrorists.
The SP and his cook were let off later.
The DGP said the police received the information about the SP’s kidnapping and car snatching at 3:23 am and the Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) was told to rush to Pathankot around 7 am.
“Our officers had reached the spot as soon as the SP shared the information although they wanted further corroboration. But they immediately started searching for his vehicle. By 7 am, ADGP, Law and Order, was asked to reach Pathankot immediately,” Arora said.
In an indication that it was after the Punjab Police alerted the Centre that NSG commandos were rushed to the airbase, Arora said: “I will say this is perhaps the only case where NSG commandos were deployed before the action started. Now you have to think for yourself how was that possible,”
He said ADGP (Law & Order) H S Dhillon was camping in Pathankot since January 1. Asked how a private vehicle with a blue beacon was allowed to go past checkpoints, Arora said the matter was under investigation.
