Patel Quota stir effect: NSUI wins most seats in Surat colleges

The elections were held on Friday in 70 colleges under Veer Narmad South Gujarat University. While NSUI said it won in 52 colleges, ABVP claimed success in 35 colleges.

The National Students’ Union of India (NSUI), the students’ wing of the Congress, claimed significant success in general secretary elections in colleges in Patidar-dominated areas of Surat against BJP-backed Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP).

The elections were held on Friday in 70 colleges under Veer Narmad South Gujarat University. While NSUI said it won in 52 colleges, ABVP claimed success in 35 colleges.

There was no official break-up of the results. “We are working at the grassroots and that is why we got such excellent results,” NSUI leader Bhavesh Sakariya said.
