Donald Trump, the 45th president of the United States, is probably the first US president to have a tangible presence in Pune. Trump Towers, an iconic building off Koregaon Park in Pune and a project by city-based Panchshil Group, has a branding partnership with the real estate wing of Trump Organisation. The branding agreement allows the use of the Trump name for the project and it is listed on the website of the Trump Organisation as well.
“The election of Trump as the President of the United States is certainly very welcome. We will be travelling to the US to attend his inauguration ceremony,” said Sagar Chordia, director of Panchshil Group.
Chordia said they were impressed by the alacrity with which the deal was finalised by Trump. “As it was not a major project, we did not want to dilute our equity in it and had gone for a branding partnership with the Trump Organisation. The deal was finalised over a single phone call and we had travelled to the US to sign on the dotted line. The Trump Organisation was professional and had followed up regularly about the project,” he said.
The “positive response” to the project encouraged the Panchshil Group to go in for a second collaboration with the Trump Organisation. The project, Trump Riverwalk, is scheduled to come up at Wagholi. These two projects are, until now, the only business footprints of the Trump Organisation in India.
Negotiations for the project, rumoured to be bigger than Trump Towers, are at an advanced stage and would be finalised soon. Panchshil Group is usually involved in super luxury residential and hospitality projects.
