Paving the way to resolve the row over the Rajmahal Palace hotel, owned by the former royal family of Jaipur, Rajmata Padmini Devi on Saturday met Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje, even as the Rajput community called for a second rally and a Jaipur bandh on September 9.
Padmini Devi got the Saturday appointment with Raje after several attempts over the last few days.
After the meeting, she told reporters, “Sarkar bhi apni, mukhyamantri bhi apni (The chief minister is ours, as is the government.”
“I have full faith in the chief minister. She heard us out. We are satisfied and everything will be fine now,” she added.
The row began on August 24, after the Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) sealed the main gate of Rajmahal Palace. The action was termed arbitrary and “illegal” by the royal family.
BJP MLA and member of the erstwhile royal family Diya Kumari subsequently asked JDA commissioner Shikhar Agarwal to stop the action and showed a court decree that had purportedly ruled in favour of the family with regard to the property.
The Sunday Express has learnt that the JDA action against the Rajmahal Palace hotel was triggered after the former royal family of Jaipur moved an application at the municipal corporation seeking clearance for Khasra number 194, the plot of land at the centre of controversy.
It was this backdoor manoeuvre that irked the CM, reliable sources told The Sunday Express. Raje was disappointed that despite her “cordial relations” with the royal family, they kept her in the dark about the application.
The CM was informed of the matter when the Jaipur Municipal Corporation sought a report from the JDA on the application.
