NHRC notice to Delhi govt on homeless Pakistan migrants

The NHRC issued notices to the government chief secretary and the North civic body commissioner to submit a report within four weeks.

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) on Wednesday took suo motu cognizance of media reports that as many as 30 shanties housing Hindu migrants from Pakistan, in north Delhi’s Majnu ka Tila, were gutted on November 27.

The NHRC issued notices to the government chief secretary and the North civic body commissioner to submit a report within four weeks. “The families are spending a difficult time on pavements as temporary arrangements, promised by the SDM concerned, have not yet been provided… The victims complained that they do not have food, clothes and basic amenities,” the commission observed.
