A Public Interest Litigation was filed on Saturday in Delhi High Court challenging the Delhi government’s decision to grant ‘martyr’ status to ex-serviceman Ram Kishan Grewal, who allegedly committed suicide over the delay in implementation of the One Rank One Pension, news agency ANI reported.

In addition to giving a status of martyr to Grewal, Chief minister Arvind Kejriwal had earlier announced a financial assistance of Rs 1 crore to the family of the Army veteran in Bhiwani where he attended the last rites of the late retired soldier.

The death of Grewal has triggered an intense political battle between the BJP, Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) with the Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi being detained thrice in two days over his agitation on the alleged suicide of the ex-servicemen. Kejriwal, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia and Labour Minister Gopal Rai were also detained by Delhi Police at separate stations.
