Lashing out at the Centre for mishandling the suicide of ex-serviceman Ram Kishan Grewal, Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday called on the government to apologise to the bereaved family after its members were detained and allegedly abused by the Delhi Police. Talking about his own detention by the Delhi Police, Rahul added that he was arrested for doing his job and that all he wanted to do was speak to the family of the victim.

“I was detained for doing my job. When I asked the police as to why they were doing this, they said that they had received the orders to do so from the top. Is it wrong to offer condolences? I just wanted to meet the family once. When they came out to meet me they were beaten and dragged to the police station,” Rahul told the media here after he was released from the Tilak Marg Police Station.

Asserting that the family of the deceased veteran were persecuted on the most troubled days of their life, Rahul further stated that this is no way the government of India behaves. “The government should apologise to the family of the veteran. This is not the way things are run in this country,” the Congress vice president said.

For the second time Wednesday, Rahul Gandhi was detained after he met the family of ex-serviceman Ram Kishan Grewal, who allegedly committed suicide over the delay in implementation of the One Rank, One Pension (OROP). Earlier, Rahul was stopped close to the gates of the Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital and then taken to the Mandir Marg Police station.

A political storm has erupted over the development, as parties are making a beeline to meet the victims’ family and are facing resistance from the Delhi Police, who carted away the leaders in droves. Issuing a statement in its defence, the Delhi Police asserted that they were reduced to detaining political leaders as they had to take law and order into consideration.

“During protest by Political parties at RML Hospital today, none has been arrested. When leaders along with the crowd started gathering at RML and Medical services got severely affected and orderliness deteriorated, the police requested them to move away. Despite several requests when they didn’t move and refused, the leaders and protesting followers were removed to Police stations and detained. All concerned are requested to help Delhi Police in maintaining peace and orderliness,” the statement added.

In a footage from during his detention inside Mandir Marg Police station, the Congress Vice President can be seen saying, “You have arrested the son of an army veteran. Why have you done that? Aren’t you ashamed? What kind of work are you doing?”

Besides Rahul, Congress leader Jyotirao Scindia was also carted away by the Police while several Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders protested outside the Parliament Street Police Station here, where Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia was held. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was also detained at Lady Harding hospital.

The problem is that BJP never accepts its mistake, let alone apolozing. Not a single instance since its came to power they gracefully accepted a mistake. Accepting mistake need not be life or death for situation for party. rather people will be happy.

Before that Congress party which was in power for 60 years and the matter of OROP was pending for 40 years as such Congress must ask unconditional apology not only of the family of ex-serviceman Ram Kishan Grewal who committed suicide(even he received OROP) and all ex-servicemen for making fun of them by providing only Rs 500 Crores in budget for 2014-2015 against actual need of 12-13 Thousand Crores. Therefore Congress Party must be held responsible for his Suicide.Nevertheless Congress party has been thrown out of power for cheating Ex-servicemen by not implementing OROP during its Govt at centre.
