Odisha: Wanted Maoist surrenders to Malkangiri police

Madkami's surrender is seen as a major setback for Maoists, particularly after the gunning down of at least 28 ultras by security forces in Panasput forest of the district last month, police said.

A Maoist carrying a reward of Rs one lakh on his head and allegedly involved in a number of crimes, including murder, on Friday surrendered before the police in Odisha’s Malkangiri district. Rama Madkami alias Rahul from Kalimela area in the Maoist-affected district, surrendered along with a pistol and some ammunition before Malkangiri superintendent of police Mitrabhanu Mohapatra in Malkangiri, police said.

Odisha government had declared the Rs one lakh reward for the head of Madkami, who was an active member of Andhra Pradesh-Odisha Border Special Zonal Committee (AOBSZC) of the outlawed CPI(Maoist) organisation since 2010. He is alleged to have been involved in a couple of killings and blasts, police said.
