Balasore SP Niti Shekhar said Pralipta Priyadarshini Samal alias Jessy, actress in several TV serials was arrested for inciting fellow actor Ranjit Patnaik alias Raja to end his life. Samal was sent to judicial custody for 15 days after her bail plea was rejected by an SDJM court in Soro town of Balasore.

“She has been arrested under Section 306 of IPC for abetting the actor’s death. There was evidence that she abetted  the actor which pushed him to take the extreme step. The actor committed suicide due to abetment. Jessy had taunted the actor in connection with his professional success that night,” said the Balasore SP.

“The accused is relatively more successful than the victim. On the day of the incident, the two had gone to a musical programme where the accused was invited and the victim was not invited, but he had accompanied her. Though another actor was supposed to perform at the event, he did not turn up following which the organisers requested the victim to perform at the event. After the show, the actor was paid Rs 2, 000 and the actress was paid Rs 27, 000 following which the accused verbally abused the victim over his capability and self respect. This led to heated exchange of words between the two in the vehicle after which the actor told the driver stop the car so that he can go out to relieve himself. He climbed over the parapet of the bridge and jumped to death,” said the SP.

However the police did not find any evidence against two other suspects in the case – driver Dhaneswar and event coordinator Pralay.

Earlier in the day, the actress and two others were supposed to be subjected to polygraph test at State Forensic Science Laboratory in Bhubaneswar, but it had to be deferred due to a technical glitch.

The members of Odisha Television Artist Association, Odisha Kinnar Sangha, and friends and well wishers of the actor yesterday had taken out a candlelight walk praying for the deceased Odia actor. They demanded a probe by State CID alleging that the actor’s death was a pre-planned murder.

Jessy is not the real accused. The victim was extra possessive type.It was their personal matter. They were couple..so this type of argument happens in between every couple. But suicide is not the solution. No one can provoke somebody to suicide. It was his weak mindset that he commit that mistake

Sometimes a person can not tolerate such cruelty behaviour and decides for suicide. Same things also happen with students also. They can't tolerate the teachers punishment. If found guilty should be punished.
