A dismissed home guard of the Bhubaneswar Commissionerate of Police continued to be critical after he attempted self-immolation in front of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s residence here Friday night.

Sandeep Hati, 45, dismissed from his job three years ago, was admitted to a hospital after he immolated himself near Naveen Niwas, the CM’s residence. He sustained over 70 per cent burn injuries. Patnaik has announced free treatment for Hati.

Hati alleged he was sacked over allegations that he participated in a rally against then Bhubaneswar DCP Nitinjeet Singh, seeking justice for a fellow home guard.

A home guard gets Rs 220 as allowance per day for eight hours of work. Odisha DGP K B Singh said he would discuss the matter with the Commissionerate Police and the case would be probed.
