Odisha Police on Friday arrested Congress leader Bapi Sarkhel in connection with the murder of the manager of a stevedoring firm in Paradip last month. This comes after Thursday’s arrest of five persons, including prime accused Rakesh Chaubey of Jamshedpur, a close associate of alleged mastermind Mahima Mishra, who is the owner of Odisha Stevedores Limited.
Mahendra Swain, manager of Seaways Shipping, was gunned down on October 26 when he was on his way to office. A labour leader, Sarkhel earlier courted controversy in December 2011, when he was arrested over the death of a labourer.
Sarkhel was produced before the court of Judicial Magistrate First Class, Kujang, where his bail plea was rejected. Meanwhile, Mahima Mishra Friday moved the Odisha HC seeking to quash a lookout circular against him in the case.
