No check on illegal pathology labs: HC contempt notice to Haryana Chief Secretary

The orders came from the court headed by Justice Rajan Gupta on a petition filed by Association of Practising Pathologists, Haryana.

THE PUNJAB and Haryana High Court Friday issued contempt notice to Haryana Chief Secretary Deepinder Singh Dhesi and others for failing to check functioning of illegal pathology laboratories in Haryana.

The orders came from the court headed by Justice Rajan Gupta on a petition filed by Association of Practising Pathologists, Haryana.

The petitioner association has sought directives to close down all unauthorised pathology laboratories run by laboratory technicians or by other unqualified persons or institutions. It was submitted that a large number of pathological laboratories are not being run by qualified registered medical practitioners possessing requisite qualifications i.e. M.D. (Pathology).

The court was informed that the petitioner association had earlier approached the High Court and while disposing of its PIL, the HC had in March 2014 directed the Haryana government as well as the Medical Council of India to frame a proper policy for regulation of the pathological laboratories and to check unauthorised pathology laboratories. The case will come up for hearing on October 3.
