Balvir S Tomar, Chairman of NIMS University in Jaipur, who was facing a case of alleged molestation here, has been arrested in Jaipur on Tuesday by a Ranchi police team.
According to the police, the case against Tomar was registered at Chutia police station in Ranchi in the month of January 2015. A 20-year-old woman, who was a student of the University, had accused Tomar of calling her to his room on some pretext and then making inappropriate advances. The girl resisted his advances and rushed out of his room, subsequently lodging the complaint. At the time, Tomar was in town to attend a conference along with some students from his University.
The police had been trying to arrest him, but he was often found to be travelling outside the country. There was information about his presence in Jaipur. A team was sent and he was arrested, said a police official, associated with the case.
DSP and Ranchi police spokesperson Vikas Chandra Srivastava said that the accused would be brought to Ranchi on a transit demand and then produced before the competent court.
