NGT notice to Odisha education baron

The National Green Tribunal has issued a notice to Achyut Samanta, former member of Forest Rights Committee and education baron, over flouting the Forest Conservation Act by allegedly carrying out illegal construction over 18 acres of forest land without clearance of the Forest Advisory Committee.

Apart from Samanta, a bench headed by Justice S P Wangdi also issued notices to the Odisha government, the Bhubaneswar Divisional Forest officer and the Khurda district collector, asking them how the forest land was used for non-forestry purpose. They have been asked to file their replies by September.
