All four members of Awaaz-e-Punjab and Punjab Congress leaders will be present in Delhi Thursday for their respective political agendas. While the cricketer-turned politician Navjot Singh Sidhu along with three other members will be holding a meeting among themselves, the Congress camp including Captain Amarinder Singh, who are already in Delhi, will welcome AICC vice-president Rahul Gandhi who will return from Uttar Pradesh.
Simarjit Singh Bains, a member of Awaaz-e-Punjab, told The Indian Express that they will be meeting Sidhu in Delhi to take a final call on their alliance. “We will tell you after Thursday’s meeting whether we will go with the Congress or AAP,” said Bains.
Though Congress general secretary cum Punjab affairs incharge Asha Kumari said the party high command was not in touch with Sidhu, sources, however, said both parties may meet to take a final call over the alliance since all the leaders will be in Delhi.
Sources close to Sidhu said he may consider softening his stand against Amarinder if his outfit decides to forge an alliance with the Congress. The former BJP leader had created a furore in the Congress by saying he was willing to join the party sans Amarinder as the latter had a nexus with the Badals.
Meanwhile, the Punjab Congress leaders including Amarinder, Kumari, secretary Harish Choudhary, senior vice-president of PCC, Lal Singh, party strategist Prashant Kishor also held a meeting in Delhi today, which most leaders termed as a “routine exercise.” Sources in Congress said the next five days could see some developments taking place as Rahul is keen on taking Sidhu on board.
Bolaria Likely to join Congress
Suspended Akali MLA Inderbir Singh Bolaria is likely to join the Congress around Dussehra. The party has been in talks with the MLA and the discussions have almost reached the final stage. He may be taken in the party fold in Amritsar when Amarinder will be camping there for five days.
