National level wrestler, accomplice held for smuggling heroin

The Narcotics Control Bureau has arrested a national level wrestler Amarjit Singh and his accomplice Satpal on charges of smuggling heroin. A team of NCB arrested both Amarjit, resident of Sirsa, and Satpal, resident of Panchkula while they were travelling in a Maruti Alto K10 car bearing Haryana license plate. From their possession, NCB recovered 0.104 kg of heroin.

“The NCB team had received information that two persons are involved in smuggling of heroin and were bringing the drugs consignment from Delhi. Accordingly NCB team conducted raid at Ambala-Chandigarh Expressway and intercepted the car at Dappar toll plaza. Both the accused were arrested from the spot. The source of heroin is based in Delhi. This is the 22nd seizure by NCB, Chandigarh during this year. Accused Satpal is involved in supplying heroin from Delhi to Chandigarh and Zirakpur region for the last three years. The accused Amarjit Singh is a national level player of wrestling and was involved in drug smuggling since last one year as per his own statement recorded by the NCB. In view of upcoming elections in State of Punjab, a renewed focus on areas adjoining Punjab in State of Haryana is being made by Narcotics Control Bureau,” said, Kaustubh Sharma, Zonal Director, NCB, Chandigarh.
