ONE OF the executive engineers suspended by the BMC in the road scam has approached the sessions court seeking anticipatory bail.
V V Achrekar was suspended last week after a probe revealed that he had colluded in assisting contractors indicted in the scam get bail by imposing and receiving fine after the FIR was registered in the case at Azad Maidan police station.
His plea for interim relief was filed after K H Yerme, another engineer suspended, along with Acherkar was arrested on Monday night.
The sessions court will decide on his plea on Wednesday. Apart from Achrekar, Tejas Shah, director of Relcon Infraproject, one of the companies named in the scam, also sought for anticipatory bail. Tejas’ brother Dipen has also been arrested in the case.
After Dipen’s bail plea was rejected by the magistrate court, he too, sought bail claiming that the BMC’s action to suddenly select some deficiency in the road and making it into a criminal case was not justified after contractors had in their contracts a provision for them to fix the defects free of cost. The court will decide on all four applications on Wednesday.
