Samajwadi Party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav on Friday said the elected MLAs of the party will decide the chief minister of the state. The leader was answering questions from reporters on the upcoming assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh. “SP legislature party will decide on the name of chief minister,” said Mulayam, indicating that his son and current chief minister Akhilesh Yadav may not be nominated as the CM face before elections.
“Samajwadi Party has reached such heights because of me. There has never been any dispute in the family since three generations and the situation remains the same. People still believe in Samajwadi Party,” he said.

His remarks come amid a tussle for power within the party between Akhilesh and Shivpal Yadav, Mulayam’s brother. Shivpal is the UP state chief of the party and a minister in the Akhilesh government. Mulayam made efforts to repair the rift while constantly emphasising that there were no fissures in the party.
