Moga cops in Ludhiana seize psychotropic drugs worth Rs 92 lakh

A total of 12.85 lakh psychotropic tablets — 8 lakh tablets of Alprazolam, 1,000 tablets of Lorazepam and 4.75 lakh tablets of Tramadol — have been seized from Surjit.

Police Thursday seized psychotropic drugs worth Rs 92 lakh from a 42-year-old man at Khosa Jalal village of Kot Isey Khan sub-division in Moga.

Police said Surjit Singh alias Seera drove a school van and supplied drugs in Moga, Ferozepur and Tarn Taran in nexus with a drug store owner, Adish Kumar Jain, of Zira in Ferozepur. A total of 12.85 lakh psychotropic tablets — 8 lakh tablets of Alprazolam, 1,000 tablets of Lorazepam and 4.75 lakh tablets of Tramadol — have been seized from Surjit. DSP (Investigation) Satpal Singh Gill said both the accused, Surjit and Jain, have been arrested.

He added 1.66 lakh tablets were recovered from the school van that Seera drives while another cache of 11.19 lakh tablets were recovered from Jain’s godown in Zira.

Jain is out on bail in another NDPS case registered against him at Zira police station. He has confessed to smuggling the banned drugs from a factory in Zirakpur.
