Five days after Baghapurana MLA Maheshinder Singh resigned from the Akali Dal alleging bias and ill treatment, MLA from Moga’s Nihal Singh Wala Rajwinder Kaur also quit the party Monday after she was denied a ticket from there. She has alleged that since agriculture minister Tota Singh is close to Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal hence tickets for all the four constituencies in Moga has been given to Tota and his aides. Jagraon MLA and former bureaucrat SR Kler has been given the ticket from Nihal Singh Wala
this time.

Launching a scathing attack on her bete noire agriculture minister, Rajwinder Monday said that Sukhbir is under a misconception that one man will win him all the four seats in Moga.

“One man (Tota Singh) does not like three people and so you throw all the three out. Is this justice? Is this how the party has respected the sacrifice of my father-in-law Jora Singh who spent more than a decade in jail during Akalis protest against Emergency. He is not going to forgive the Badals for this,” the MLA said, adding, “At present, the party leadership is blind folded and they think that one family (Tota Singh and his son Barjinder Brar) will win them the entire Moga. In fact, this family is going to sink the entire ship.”

Making further allegations on Tota, Rajwinder said that every person in Moga is well aware of the fact that ‘this man is responsible for the failures of the cotton crop, spurious pesticides scam, drugs village in his own constituency and for inducting people with criminal background in the party.’

Speaking to The Indian Express, the MLA said, “Everything is being done at behest of one corrupt leader. He did nothing when cotton crop failed leaving the farmers devastated. Spurious pesticides were given to farmers and it is because of his patronage that drugs village (Daulewala) is thriving in his own constituency Dharamkot. Then, he supports and inducts persons with criminal background in the party.”

Alleging that none in the party tried to contact her to sort out the issues, she said, “I am resigning from the party and Akali Dal chapter is now over forever. People who voted for me have directed me to do this and I do not have any greed for chair. I have resigned to stand with them.”

She added that she is ‘yet to decide if she will contest the polls independently.’

Reacting to allegations, the agriculture minister said that ‘Rajwinder Kaur should contest independently and defy the party’s survey’.

“How did she get the ticket in 2012 if I am the one allotting them? Why is she running away now. She should contest and prove party’s survey wrong. She should go to Daulewala village and ask people what we have done to control drugs. Drug sale in Daulewala is at the lowest now due to our efforts. I do not owe any explanation to her,” he said.

Maheshinder holds show of strength

MLA Baghapurana Maheshinder Singh after resigning from the party held show of strength at Baba Gurmail Singh gurudwara Monday. He said that a committee has been formed to decide on the next course.

“We will decide after consulting senior leaders who are supporting me that I will contest as an Independent or join some other party. Today’s programme was to thank my people who voted for me in 2012,” he said.
