A militant was killed in an encounter in J&K’s Shopian district Saturday.
A police officer said the operation was launched at Doobjan after security forces received information about the presence of militants there.
He said that on spotting them, the militants opened fire. In retaliation, the forces gunned down a militant, he said, adding that a soldier was injured in the encounter.
The other militants managed to escape, he said. The militant has been identified as Waseem Khanday. He had allegedly joined Hizbul Mujahideen after he snatched a gun from a guard at the house of a CPM leader.
