A 17-YEAR-OLD student was allegedly administered drugs and sodomised by his seniors when he refused to clean their shoes at a private engineering college in Mathura. The family of the boy – a first-year student – got an FIR lodged on Thursday at Chhata police station naming five students and an employee of the hostel mess. The accused have been suspended by the college on charges of ragging.

Later in the evening, the five, along with other students of the college, reached Kotwali police station to get a counter-FIR lodged against the 17-year-old after police claimed that nothing concrete about drug overdose and sodomy had come up in the medical report. Though police were yet to lodge the FIR till the time of filing the report, they assured full cooperation to the students.

The boy, from Farrukhabad district, had taken admission at Sanjay Engineering and Management Institute on August 8. He had shifted to the institute hostel on August 14. The boy alleged that other students ragged and abused him.

“They were beating my son since day one. They asked him to clean their room and shoes. When he refused, they beat him. After he complained to the hostel warden, the seniors dragged my son to his hotel room on September 1 and injected him with drugs. They later sodomised him and threatened to kill him if he shared all this with anyone,” said the victim’s father.

Claiming that the college tried to stop him from getting an FIR lodged, he alleged that no action was taken against the erring students even after his son lodged a complaint with the warden. The boy shared his ordeal with his parents when he went home on September 2.

The parents said their son underwent treatment as he was administered an overdose of drugs. They came to Mathura after their son was discharged from the hospital.

When contacted, Chhata police SHO Ramsanehi Rajput said an FIR on charges of assault, ragging and sodomy and POCSO Act has been lodged against the five students – Shashank Pandey, Azaharuddin Khan, Ayush Yadav, Chinoy Borah and Shivam Rana. The mess employee, Vijay Kumar, has also been named in the FIR as the father alleged that he used to help the students in harassing his son.

Institute Principal Amitabh Srivastava said this is the first time a fresher has complained of ragging. “An internal fact-finding committee has been set up to investigate the incident. The accused students have been suspended till the investigation is over,” he added.

Asked about the medical report of the boy, SP (Rural) Arun Kumar said: “It is not possible to get drug traces in medical examination after 14 days of the incident.” He added that police were yet to get documents related to the victim’s treatment.
