A day after the Pimpri-Chinchwad BJP unit asked him resign over his alleged derogatory remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Shripal Sabnis, author and president of the 18th Akhil Bharatiya Marathi Sahitya Sammelan on Saturday remained defiant while asserting that he “will not apologise even if BJP members hang him.”

In fact, Sabnis, who has authored 29 books, on Saturday filed police complaint with Umarga police in Marathwada after receiving alleged death threats from two BJP members. Sabnis, a Puneite, had gone to Marathwada to deliver a speech at an academic institute.

“I have received two phone calls around 1 pm. today. The callers asked me to apologise for my remarks against Narendra Modi. They said if I do not apologise, they will kill me,” Sabnis said on Saturday evening. Sabnis added that he has filed complaints with Umarga police. It will be now the responsibility of the state government and the Chief Minister to ensure his safety.

On Friday, BJP Pimpri-Chinchwad unit burnt an effigy of Sabnis over his controversial remarks against the Narendra Modi relating to Gujarat carnage during his tenure as chief minister. Sabnis had made the remarks during a speech at a college at Akurdi Pimpri-Chinchwad on Thursday. “I do not accept Modi under whose tenure Gujarat carnage happened…but I have no problem with this Modi who talks of Buddha and Gandhi and goes to Pakistan for establishing peace despite threats to his life,” Sabnis had said, triggering protests from BJP which has threatened to stop him from descending on the dias of the Marathi literary meet which is going to take place in Pimpri-Chinchwad from January 15. Sabnis has been appointed president of the meet.

Sabnis said he has not said anything wrong and therefore there is no reason for him to apologise. “The Indian constitution has given me freedom of speech and nobody has the right to take away that right from me. I will speak against what is wrong and speak in favour of what is right. I have constitutional right for doing this,” he said.

It is unfortunate. Creative people should desist from speaking out but instead commit their opinions in written words. This will be a sure sign of their courage.

Every time when India is terrorized by stanis, Indian Muslims have provided support to those stani terrorists. Enough is enough. Excluding the SICKulars, any Indian who wants to contribute to the war against terrorism in India, should stop buying things made in an Islamic country and stop doing business with a Muzzie owned store/business. You have to act!

IT IS SURPRISING THAT DESPITE THE SUPREME ,COURT AFTER 12 YEARS OF INVESTIGATION UNDER CONGRESS RAJ GAVE CLEAN CHIT , SOME INTELLECTUALLY BLIND PEOPLE KEEPS HARPING ON WHAT THEY BELIEVE. IT IS DISRESPECTUL OF THE LANDS HIGHEST COURT AND SHOULD BE PUNISHABLE TO MALIGN SOME ONE. THIS CLEARLY SHOWS HATRED AND INTOLERANCE FOR THE P.M MODI. IT IS EQUALLY WRONG TO THREATEN SOMEONE FOR SUCH STUPID REMARKS.

Modiji who speaks so much about tolerance inside and outside thwe country should take action against the intolerant elements within his party and other religious cadres. Why is he silent on action points ? Mere talk will not do.

Sabnis has said nothing wrong. He has all the right to opine . His opinion may not be shared by some people. But why would they threaten him? Sabnis shares the illuminating side, as per his consideration, of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and at the same time deplores the dark side of him. An author of 29 books Sabnis is an esteemed person worth be given due prestige sans disagreement with his views. He has been afforded death threat! Is it tolerance that the ruling cl ideologue hawk? It is the duty of the Government to ensure safety of Sri Sabnis.

He absolutely has the right to speak his mind. Either we can live in a land of laws or a land of mob justice and sycophancy. The people threatening him are cowards; if they have "balls" they should come and debate him in a civil manner. Supreme court giving a clean chit does not mean riots did not happen under Modi's watch, where innocent people got killed in mob violence. We got to keep in mind that India is not stan or bangladesh or afghanistan or any of the banana republics where mobs rule. If someone does not like what this author has said, who is asking you to buy/read his books or even listen to what he is saying.

too bad he got threats from some people. He has a right for his opinions . But ,as a well known writer he has no rights to ignore the truths. He knows Modi was a b new CM when riots happened and riots happened after a train full of Hindu pilgrims returning from Ayodhya were burnt alive. This is the truth. Now Modi getting elected repeatedly and courts at all levels giving him clen chit makes this writer retract his statements and not repeat his comments. Now Modi can not do any thing and His supporters are protesting. I believe they are right in their protests but they should not harm this writer. they can ban his speeches and ban his books, burn effigies etc. do not take law into your own hands.

Facts are available. Indians checked them. Then decided that Congress is communal and corrupt, and Modi is innocent and a good administrator. Hence the clear BJP victory. You cannot handle the facts so keep talking hatred and prejudice. Such behavior is anti-national.

This is a case of three s. Modi cannot comment on every little incident. This Marathi joker has extreme views and he gets some extreme reactions in return. So what? Of course, the police should and will try to find the who threatened to kill the Marathi and take action. So that makes two s. Who is the third. Of course, the from Orissa.
