Israeli woman gangraped in Manali, 3 minors among six held

A 25-year-old Israeli woman, who had sought a lift from the accused to reach Manali bus stand for her journey to Kaza in Lahaul Spiti was allegedly raped by two youths, police said.

With the arrest of six youths, including three minors, the Kullu district police Wednesday claimed to have solved a case in which an Israeli woman was allegedly gangraped in Manali Sunday.

Apart from Akshay Rana (21) and Pankaj Sharma (25), who are accused of sexually assaulting the victim, the police have arrested their four accomplices. Among the arrested minors, two are 16 years of age, while one is 15 years old. The sixth accused has been identified as Khemu (19).

Mandi IG Ajay Yadav confirmed the arrests and said the main accused, Akshay and Pankaj, had admitted to committing the sexual assault, while the other four were only accompanying them.

“Further investigation in the case is underway to collect evidence. The police have got a detailed medical examination of the victim done,” he said.

Meanwhile, state BJP president, Satpal Satti, Wednesday attacked the state government over rising crime in the state.
