Man strangles married daughter to death, arrested

A 60-year old man in Ludhiana's Saholi village has been arrested for allegedly strangling his married daughter to death after her husband disowned her for having an extra marital affair.

A 60-year old man in Ludhiana’s Saholi village has been arrested for allegedly strangling his married daughter to death after her husband disowned her for having an extra marital affair. Harpreet Kaur, 32 was strangled by her father Pal Singh with shoe laces.

According to police, Harpreet had eloped with the man with whom she was having an affair to Heeran village. Her in-laws informed about the incident to her father who reached Heeran and ferried the woman back to her in-laws village. However, Harpreet’s in-laws and her husband refused to accept her in front of the panchayat and she came back to her maternal home.

On the intervening night of Friday and Saturday, the father strangled her to death. According to the mother of the victim, she tried to intervene but Pal Singh was furious and did not listen to her. The police also recovered the pair of shoe lace with which Pal Singh strangled his daughter to death.

SSP Ludhiana Rural Opinderjit Singh Ghuman said FIR was registered against the father under section 302 (murder) of IPC at Jodhan police station.
