After waiting more than 72 hours, the Malkangiri administration is set to bury unclaimed bodies of 17 of the 28 Maoists killed in an operation in Pansaput grampanchayat area.

SP Mitrabhanu Mahapatra said family members of Sudhi Khilo, Shaymla Pangi and Kamlu Sanbasia received the bodies Thursday. Family members of Jayram Khilo are likely to receive his body Friday, police said, adding that the number of bodies claimed would then reach 11.

Officials said the bodies had started decomposing and would have to be buried soon. They said they have photos of the unclaimed bodies and would exhume them if anyone claims them later.
