Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis on Wednesday announced the constitution of a one-member inquiry panel to probe allegations of irregularities in the allotment of land to Associate Journals Limited (AJL) in Bandra in 1983.
“Since there are reports of irregularities, we have decided to conduct a probe. If the charges of irregularities are proved, action will be taken. The case will be treated on merit. The government has no personal agenda nor is it political vendetta,” Fadnavis said. Last week, the issue was discussed in the assembly with BJP members seeking a probe.
In 1983, the state government had allotted 3,478 sq m land to AJL in Bandra for setting up the Nehru Memorial Library and Research Centre. But no construction was taken up on the plot till 2013.
Interestingly, permission for commercial construction was sought from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation. An 11-storeyed “Congress Bhavan” is being built on the spot.
The government denied it has submitted any report to the Centre. The CM said, “We have just ordered the probe. There is no report nor has anything been conveyed to the Centre.”
