A video clip surfaced Wednesday showing NCP MLA Jitendra Awhad holding court at his Thane office and asking a 17-year-old girl to thrash a 22-year-old man, who had been accused of molesting her. Awhad, an MLA from the Kalwa-Mumbra area, summoned the man to his office in Naupada and reportedly ordered the girl to hit him. The incident took place Monday, after the girl, a resident of Laxmi Nagar area, reportedly approached Awhad’s office for help.

After being slapped repeatedly by the girl, the 22-year-old was handed over to the Naupada police station where the girl lodged a molestation complaint. Police later booked him under Section 354(a)(b) and 506 of the IPC and Section 12 of the POCSO Act 2012.

The video went viral after several NCP workers uploaded it on social media.

Awhad said, “The boy was harassing the girl for two months, she was mentally disturbed… He had molested her in a public place… I didn’t take the law in my hand.”

“He hit me twice, when I resisted his advances. He was threatening that if I told my parents then he would also beat my father,” the girl told The Indian Express.
