DMK on Tuesday announced that party president M Karunanidhi is ill due a drug induced allergy. Doctors have advised him to take rest, the party said. The party also requested people to avoid visiting him and cooperate. A statement released from DMK headquarters on Tuesday read: “President Kalaignar (Karunanidhi) is ill because of an allergy caused by a medicine he is using and is taking rest.”
The statement said that the allergy, for the past few weeks is due to one of the drugs he is taking. “Doctors have advised him to take rest for some more days. Hence, visitors should avoid making a visit to him and cooperate,” the release said. This development comes a month after AIADMK supremo and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa was admitted in the Apollo hospital on September 22 after she complained of fever and dehydration.
Apollo Hospital had issued a release recently stating that the CM is progressing gradually. A Raj Bhavan release also stated that, “Dr Pratap C Reddy, Chairman of Apollo Hospitals, had briefed the Governor on the treatment being given to Jayalalithaa by a team of experts including doctors of Critical Care Group, senior cardiologist, senior respiratory physician, dieticians and diabetologist, among others.”
Reddy told the Governor that Jayalalithaa “continues to be under treatment and observation for all vital parameters, respiratory support and passive physiotherapy,” it said.
