Ludhiana robbery: Seven arrested, SUV recovered

Police said 10 men were involved in the robbery.

Seven people were arrested on Thursday within 24 hours of a robbery at Tagore Nagar. Aparna, wife of Roshan Lal, was held hostage by the accused on Wednesday when she was alone at home before the latter fled with Rs 8 lakh in cash and 15 tolas of gold.

Police said 10 men were involved in the robbery. Of them, seven have been arrested. Another suspect has been detained but his role is being verified.

Police Commissioner J S Aulakh said the conspiracy was plotted by Hardeep, driver of one Naveen Bhatia, business partner of Roshan Lal. Hardeep, along with his nine accomplices, believed that Lal was in possession of Rs 20 crore that could be robbed easily.

The accused are Hardeep Singh, Sukhdeep Singh, Ranjit Singh, Harpreet Singh, Avtar Singh, Sandeep Singh, Gagandeep Singh, Jarnail Singh, Parvinder Singh and Sunny, all residents of Dakha and Jagraon areas. Of them, Sukhdeep, Parvinder and Sandeep are still at large.

Sunny had managed a Scorpio from somewhere that has been seized by the police, who have also recovered Rs 8,000 from the accused. The seven were arrested from Sham Nagar late on Thursday.

“Hardeep, Parvinder and Jarnail were the drivers of businessman Naveen Bhatia, a business partner of Roshan Lal. Since Lal and Bhatia used to visit each other often, they were well acquainted with Lal’s home. Parvinder and Jarnail had reports that Rs 20 crore was lying at Lal’s home and informed Hardeep,” said Aulakh.

Hardeep, along with his brother Sukhdeep, decided the day of robbery and also did a recce of the house at Tagore Nagar.

The accused went with a box of sweets to invite the Lal family for a party and overpowered Aparna. The police also found that the robbers bought sweets from Haqiqat Sweet Shop which was captured on CCTV.
