Lucknow: SP corporator, wanted in 36 cases, shot at

A municipal corporator, also a Samajwadi Party leader, was shot at by unidentified assailants while he was attending a relative’s funeral in Lucknow’s Hazratganj area Sunday.

Atul Yadav, alias Bantu, has 36 criminal cases against him and is a history-sheeter of Hazratganj police station. He is currently admitted at King George’s Medical University, and is said to be in a critical condition.

Police said the incident took place when Yadav had gone to attend the funeral of a relative near his house at Narhi locality on Sunday. “Someone fired at him on his head. No one knows who did it,” said his elder brother, Yogesh. He added that they are yet to lodge a police complaint.

Sources said the SP leader was involved in a few property-related disputes. Additional SP (Crime) Gyan Prakash Chaturvedi said police were probing the case from all angles.
