Sitanshu Kar, the longest serving spokesperson of Defence Ministry and an officer of Indian Information Service (IIS), has been transferred as Director General of All-India Radio’s News Service Division.
Kar was holding charge of Director General (Media and Communications) in Press Information Bureau and was also principal spokesperson of the Defence Ministry. Current DG of AIR’s news division, Mohan Chandak, will replace Kar as DG, PIB. It is not clear whether he will also take charge as Defence spokesperson.
Kar has been spokesperson for the Defence Ministry for nearly a decade. One of the reasons being suggested behind his transfer is that the sanctioned post in the ministry is of Additional Director General (Defence) and Kar, having been promoted as Director General, needed to be posted at a DG-level post.
