The ruling BJP found itself isolated over punishment to AAP MP Bhagwant Mann at a meeting of the Lok Sabha committee going into his conduct. Speaker Sumitra Mahajan had constituted the committee during the monsoon session after he had live-streamed security arrangements in Parliament House. Sources told The Indian Express that BJP members insisted on Mann’s suspension for the remainder of the winter session (until December 6) with a draft report circulated among members. Congress representative P Venugopal, according to sources, told the committee that in that case he would give a note of dissent.

Other members (Trinamool Congress, Shiv Sena, BJD, AIADMK) felt Mann had already been punished enough. As directed by the Speaker during the monsoon session, he has stayed away from the House since then while his conduct was under scrutiny.
BJP member Kirit Somaiah told the panel he wanted a unanimous report to the Speaker. With consensus elusive, he deferred the task of finalisation of the report. No date was announced for the next meeting.
Mann had appeared before the panel and demanded that the PM be suspended from Lok Sabha for having allegedly compromised with “national security” by allowing an ISI team inside the Pathankot airbase after the terror attack there.
