LeT bomb maker Tunda attacked by inmates

LASHKAR-E-TAIBA (LeT) bomb-making expert, Syed Abdul Karim Tunda, 73, who is accused in nearly 40 cases of bomb blast across the country, was attacked by two inmates in Karnal jail after some argument on Wednesday morning.

Tunda, who was in Ghaziabad jail, was brought to Karnal jail by police on Tuesday night for his appearance in an ongoing bomb blast case in Panipat court on Thursday. The case pertains to a blast in a private bus in 1997 in Panipat, killing a child and injuring several others.

The SHO of Karnal Sadar police station informed that after some heated exchange, when the jail inmates were having tea around 9 am, two jail inmates, identified as Joginder and Amandeep of Panipat, tried to strangulate Tunda. However, the jail staff came to his rescue and took him to Karnal civil hospital under heavy security for check-up. The SHO said, “Tunda is fine and we have registered a case of attempt to murder against two jail inmates.”Tunda’s security has been beefed up.
