Kolkata: Teen lynched for ‘stealing mangoes’

A19-year-old boy was allegedly beaten to death by two men who suspected him of stealing mangoes from an orchard here, police said Wednesday.

The deceased, identified as Aniruddha Biswas, was a resident of Haridebpur area in south Kolkata. “Biswas had entered the field with a friend last Friday when some men came there and claimed they had stolen mangoes. They alleged that they had flung a stone and broken a glass window,” said a police officer.

The two men, identified as Binod and Balmiki, began thrashing the boys. Aniruddha sustained severe wounds which got infected, police said. He died late on Tuesday night. The two men have been arrested.
