Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Sunday came down heavily upon the ruling government as neither Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee nor any cabinet minister attended the the launch event of PMUY in Kolkata.
“I am dismayed at the absence of Mamata Banerjee at the launch of PMUY, a welfare project to provide cooking gas to women of BPL households at a subsidised price in West Bengal. Inspite of being invited, neither the CM nor ministers Jyotipriyo Mullick and Sovandeb Chatterjee showed up. Just like its predecessor, the Trinamool Congress too is indulging into a narrow politics and nepotism,” he said.
Stating that he was like Mamata’s “younger brother”, the Union minister said, “We may be from different political parties. But politics should not come in the way of development. We went ahead with the programme on our own.”
Asked about the chief minister’s absence, Trinamool Congress general secretary Partha Chatterjee said, “I don’t have anything to say about it but I am not sure if we were invited to the event.”
Sources said that Mamata had not been keeping well and had been asked not to venture outside to prevent her health from deteriorating further ahead of the Independence Day celebration on Monday at Red Road.
