THE DEPUTY chief health officer of Kolkata Municipal Corporation has lodged a complaint with the police against Trinamool Congress councillor Ajita Ghosh for allegedly running an illegal construction syndicate. Dr Pradim Kumar Roy has also sought Chief minister Mamata Banerjee’s intervention in the matter, said police.

In his complaint, Roy has accused Ajita Ghosh of allegedly running a syndicate business at Ward 32 of Kamarhati municipality in Belgharia’s Nandan Nagar with her husband Tapas Ghosh. “He said he has a doctor’s chamber at Ghola Road, where he used to practice. He claims he has been threatened by goons who have the support of the local Trinamool councillor. The goons apparently wanted the property,” said a police officer.

After Roy refused to move, the syndicate members allegedly stole an ECG machine and other instruments worth Rs 2 lakh from his chamber, he has alleged. Chowdhury claimed that while he informed the police about the matter, initially he did not receive any help.

“The complaint added that even though he (Roy) moved court, the councillor continued to threaten him and forcefully evicted him, pulled down his chambers and started construction in the area,” said the police officer.
