Following reports about private medical colleges collecting capitation fee for MBBS admissions, the Kerala government Friday ordered a vigilance probe into the matter. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan announced the decision in the Assembly, where proceedings were disrupted for the fifth day over the fee hike in private medical colleges.

The Opposition has been demanding a roll back in the fee hike. Replying to an adjournment motion moved by the Opposition, Health Minister K K Shylaja admitted that private colleges might be collecting capitation fee. Stern action would be taken against the management if the allegations regarding capitation fee were found to be true, she said.
